How to Hire the Best Contractor
It is an exciting time, you have decided to put an addition or remodel your home and now you need to find the right contractor to work with you. You’ve selected the tile, fixtures, have drawn out on paper your design, and are ready for bid. So how do you find the best contractor for the job?
As a general contractor, I always tell my prospective clients to do the following to find the best general contractor for them. When I meet with a client, I ask them to look at my previous work, check out my website, my Facebook page, and talk to my previous clients. It’s not enough to have a pretty website, it’s the real-life experiences you need to know about.
Here are some questions to ask the previous customers:
• How often was the general contractor on the site everyday overseeing the work?
• Was the contractor responsive to your questions and concerns?
• Was the contractor able to deal with unexpected issues that arise?
• Did the contractor come in on budget, if not, were the issues identified well explained and worked through together?
• Did they clean up the job site at the end of each day?
• When was the job completed? Have there been any issues with their work since they
left? If so were they dealt with?
• Would they work with that contractor again?
• Check the better business bureau, have there been any complaints?
• Is the person licensed in PA and insured?
After you have done your due diligence, then you can feel good about your choice. After all
this person will be working in your home, shouldn’t you know who you’re hiring?
